Sheikh Hasina: India walks tightrope harbouring deposed Bangladeshi prime minister

 

Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangladesh in August of the previous year and is currently sought for her return to the country to address criminal allegations related to the fatalities of numerous protesters during the uprising that led to her ousting.

India is navigating a delicate situation by hosting the ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Ms. Hasina resides with her family in a fortified government bungalow in the capital city of New Delhi, where she is recognized as a state guest.The safe house is under stringent security measures due to the imminent danger to her life, with intelligence personnel actively preventing journalists and the public from accessing the vicinity.

Bangladesh finds itself in a precarious and challenging situation with the newly established interim government headed by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Muhammad Yunus.

He had earlier communicated with Sky News, pledging to bring Ms. Hasina to trial.

Ms. Hasina departed the country on August 5, 2024, following a student uprising that concluded her 15-year tenure in power.

She is sought in Bangladesh to confront allegations of corruption and criminal offenses related to the fatalities of numerous protesters during the uprising.
