Netherlands announce squad for ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 games in Namibia
New Delhi, Feb 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Netherlands has revealed its 15-member squad for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches, scheduled to take place in Namibia from March 5 to 13. In addition to competing in two One Day Internationals (ODIs) against the host nation Namibia on March 7 and 13, the Netherlands will also face Canada in two matches on March 5 and 11.
All matches are set to be held at the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Notably, Fred Klaassen is poised to make his return to 50-over cricket after nearly two years, while Zach Lion-Cachet has received his first ODI call-up.
Brandon Glover, Shariz Ahmad, and Clayton Floyd, who participated in the Dutch bowling camp in Cape Town, have not been included in the squad. "We are eager to commence our first WCL2 fixtures of 2025 in Namibia. We have successfully assembled a well-rounded squad capable of adapting to the conditions and the opposition we will encounter," stated Netherlands head coach Ryan Cook.
Currently, the Netherlands occupies the fifth position in the 2024–2026 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 points table, having accumulated 14 points from 12 matches, which includes seven victories and five losses.
To secure a place among the top four nations that will compete in a global qualifying tournament for the main Men’s ODI World Cup, set to be hosted in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in 2027, the Netherlands will need to achieve several wins during their tour of Namibia.
The Netherlands previously participated in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India, having qualified as the second-best team from the global qualifiers in Zimbabwe. They concluded the main tournament in tenth place, securing two victories, including one against South Africa, alongside seven defeats.
